WHAT WE DO

Awapuni Community Gardens offer land access for growing food and the opportunity to share knowledge and resources. The gardens work on an allotment-style where individuals (usually families) take ‘ownership’ of a bed to grow food for themselves. There are also shared community beds at the gardens. There are currently 20 community plots and 86 whānau plots.

ABOUT
The Gardens originally began in Crewe Cres, in September 2011 as the Crewe Community Gardens. After housing development forced a relocation, the gardens were established at the Awapuni site in December 2018. Groups that use the gardens are: Let’s Grow Palmy, Manawatu Food Action Network, Sports Manawatu, Fonterra, local schools including Awatapu College and more. Our composting system is working well and Dave runs regular community garden working bees.

We partner with our community libraries, and are currently offering sessions in 3 libraries, including Awapuni, Te Patikitiki and Roslyn, and are looking to extend into all 4 community libraries.
